Invisible braces are the latest advance in orthodontic technology, and are becoming more and more popular as they overcome many of the barriers which usually put people off wearing braces. They are made of thin clear plastic which fits over teeth like a glove. Dr Nicky measures the teeth and makes a whole series of aligners, each one a slightly different shape than the last. Each aligner is worn for 2 weeks before moving on to the next. They slowly squash the teeth straight over time.
You can take them out for tooth-brushing, eating, drinking and special occasions. Dr Nicky advises people to try to wear them at least 20 hours per day.
Invisible braces work best for mild - moderately crooked teeth. They take about 6 months to 1 year to work depending on how crooked the teeth are.
